The former Mission House of the Society for African Missions in Cadier en Keer has been sold again. The SMA sold the house to a property developer a few years ago. Unable to find a suitable new use for the property, he recently resold it.
Real estate developer 3W is currently converting the building into a care center. The De Keerderberg nursing home, which occupies part of the new building, will be acquired by healthcare organization Sevagram. Together, they will operate the entire building as a care center.
This means that part of De Keerderberg will return to the wing where it once served as the SMA's "Kloosterbejaardenhuis" (Monastery for the Elderly). The wing of the former school and museum will also be incorporated into the new care center. The new section housing the SMA community will remain outside the sale. It will remain the property of the society.
"The entrance is being modified, creating a clear separation between the SMA wing and the new care center," says Provincial Superior Father Jos Pijpers. "But of course, we'll be working well together."
